On unlikely excuses and Congressman Matt Gaetz

OJ Simpson dubiously declared after his acquittal for the murder of his ex-wife that he would spend his life seeking the real killers.

"When things have settled down a bit I will pursue as my primary goal in life the killer or killers who slaughtered Nicole and Mr. Goldman. They are out there somewhere. Whatever it takes to identify them and bring them in, I will provide somehow."

Matt Gaetz, the fresh faced key note speaker of Trump's 2020 Republican convention is channeling some of that Simpsonian realism when he accuses the FBI of setting him up, extorting him and criminalizing his sexual conduct. While the facts are yet to be established, the irony of Gaetz's predicament are worth noting.

Gaetz is accused of transporting underage girls across state lines for sexual purposes, an accusation he denies.

In 2017, Gaetz was the only member of Congress to vote against the ``Combating Human Trafficking in Commercial Vehicles Act''which would create a human trafficking prevention coordinator and to expand the scope of activities authorized under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's outreach and education program to include human trafficking prevention activities.
