On Data Mining and Trump

Trump's official speech making as part of the state of the union address, from the perspective of analytical linguistics, differs in a few interesting ways from Obama. Obama's speeches varied rather widely in both length of speech and in the length of sentences. Trumps are all about 5000 words and about the same level of words per sentence. His speeches differ from Obama's in both theme and style. Some interesting trends from the last three state of the union addresses:

Trump's use of positive future oriented words fell:

WANT* was spoken [ 1] times in 2019, representing a [-89.6%] change from 2017 HELP* was spoken [ 1] times in 2019, representing a [-86.6%] change from 2017

BELIEVE* was spoken [ 1] times in 2019, representing a [-84.4%] change from 2017 WILL BE* was spoken [ 2] times in 2019, representing a [-81.2%] change from 2017

As did Trump's commitment to change in the US medical system:

RATE* was spoken [ 1] times in 2019, representing a [-81.2%] change from 2017

OBAMACARE* was spoken [ 1] times in 2019, representing a [-81.2%] change from 2017

INSURANCE* was spoken [ 1] times in 2019, representing a [-81.2%] change from 2017 Trump remains firm in his own mind with regards to the border wall project:

SOUTHERN* was spoken [ 6] times in 2019 representing a [6X] change from 2017

WALL* was spoken [ 6] times in 2019 representing a [6X] change from 2017

PRISON* was spoken [ 6] times in 2019 representing a [6X] change from 2017

BORDER* was spoken [ 13] times in 2019 representing a [6X] change from 2017

And the president's recognition of Congress has grown since he first completed the 2017 state of the union address:

LEGISLATION* was spoken [ 7] times in 2019 representing a [7X] change from 2017

PASS* was spoken [ 8] times in 2019 representing a [8X] change from 2017

CHOOSE* was spoken [ 6] times in 2019 representing a [6X] change from 2017

Trump's speeches represents some kind of policy intent but may not really reflect his perspective or the direction of the white house. Relative to his Twitter feed it is severly sanitized and as a result may not hold as much value from the perspective of analysis. You can be the judge.
