On Iraq - Mortality, Correlation and Life Expectancy
Iraq is one of the few countries in the world where Infant Mortality is poorly correlated to the Life Expectancy. The data indicates that while Life Expectancy grew over the period between 1994 and 2015, it did so much slower than Infant Mortality fell.
War appears to buck the trend that we see all over the world. Under normal circumstances, even under dire poverty, infant mortality should be strongly correlated to the Life Expectancy. When the correlation is poor, it tends to be indicative of a catastrophic situation.
